Sr. Director of Procurement

Purpose of the position

The Director of Procurement is responsible for the tactical procurement of raw materials, commodities, packaging and supplies to be used in the manufacturing of finished goods. The Director recommends and implements procurement strategies and best practices, leads all sourcing, negotiating, contracting, logistics and purchasing activities to leverage buying power and create optimal value. Director of Procurement will drive departmental efficiencies to meet business objectives, maximize effectiveness and improve profitability.

Responsibilities & duties


  • Develop and implement strategic purchasing plans by utilizing analytic, forecasting and negotiation skills to procure materials at the most favourable costs and terms.

o Work standard – Provide procurement financial analysis substantiating procurement decision making.

  • Create and oversee sourcing and procurement budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements.

o Work standard – Provide Finance with periodic raw and packaging material costs to assist in maintaining product costing and projected raw material and finished goods costs.

  • Manage and control raw materials purchases and manage either directly or indirectly all personnel who make purchases for the organization.

o Work standard – Implement inventory stock levels, reorder amounts and lead times for all raw materials and packaging.

  • Work cross functionally with Sales, R&D/Technology, Manufacturing, QA and Finance to ensure precise specification and procurement of critical materials to meet customer end product needs.

o Work standard – Establish and maintain procurement strategies and processes to support decisions necessary to purchase materials in correspondence with organizational objectives.

  • Lead logistics and purchasing team to optimize product workflow, minimize costs, selects suppliers and purchase materials that meet quality requirements and specifications at the most favourable price.

o Work standard – Develop and mentor staff. Share knowledge and expertise. Ensure employee objectives are developed, issued, tracked and reported as required.

Academic Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree reguired/Master's degree preferred.

*CPPM, NAPM or APICS Certified preferred

Work Experience & Skills

*7 – 10 years progressive experience in Purchasing/Supply Chain with extensive knowledge of the manufacturing industry.

*5 - 7 years supervisory experience in a Purchasing role within a manufacturing environment.

*Experience purchasing derivatives such as forward contracts, futures, spot pricing and swaps for price risk management.

*Experienced in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.

*Extensive experience working with major ingredient suppliers to manage total cost of ownership of raw ingredients and packaging.

*Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills.

*Analytical, forecasting, and negotiating skills to procure materials at the most favourable costs and terms.

*Established in the field of strategic sourcing and negotiations.

*Track record of meeting substantial material cost reduction targets.

*Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and the ability to resolve problems on a professional level.
